Dude Watch: Spring 2010

Here are a few shows I thought were very strong.

Jill Sander

Raf Simon's took one of my favorite films, In the Mood For Love, and turned it into one of my favorite shows this season (they even walked to the soundtrack).

The wardrobe in the movie and here on the runway is particularly special to me. It is a mixture of 1960s polish, contemporary tailoring and looks I adore on well-dressed elderly Chinese/Vietnamese/South East Asian men.

It didn't occur to me that I was so heavily influenced by these three elements, fashion-wise, until I saw this show. I actually do dress like this on a daily basis. Right down to the white strappy sandals.

More rad old Chinese man. Do you see it?

Lanvin

Normally I wouldn't like visors on guys at all (I've threatened M many times over his), but somehow this works for me.

I love the moustaches. But then again, I love all moustaches.

Imagine that the Jill Sander guy is actually a girl and these two are riding bicycles. You now have a method of locating M and I in San Francisco. I never thought I would see another guy in shorts, a thin scarf, backpack, dress socks and a visor. I definitely didn't think it would be on the runway. So surreal.
