Mao Mao

The Band of Outsiders Fall/Winter 2009 lookbook tops all other lookbooks this year in cuteness. The poloroids are playful, chic, features cutie Jason Schwartzman, those oh-so-charming La Chinoise inspired looks that I wish every boyfriend would wear and has some delightful images of one of my favorite LA haunts, Chinatown.

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

Photobucket

Many of these scenes contain long shots (a la Godard's Weekend) that are stylized, beautiful and grotesque. Like In the Mood For Love, another favorite of mine, this film is saturated in rich colors (some times the color of the character's customes change when moving into another scene) and all the lovely costumes were designed by legend Jean Paul Gaultier.

I think in Tampopo, food is looked at as a sexy, playful and and an expression of human desire. In the Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, food, especially meat, is presented in its ugliest, most violent form. In other black humor, extreme films like Ichi the Killer, it is violence for the sake of violence. Here, the film captures the ugliness of modernization and the barbarism, lust and gluttonly plaguing the human condition.

This film is not for the light hearted. It has: nudity, violence, cannibalism and lots and lots of gross raw meat and dead animals.

The last part was left out because I don't know how people feel about it. If you are fine with the portrayal of cannibalism, then seek it out yourself. Marrin's last costume seen in the thirteenth clip is the most spectacular (the long netted train, the feather neck piece). Simply spectacular.

Playa de Las Catedrales

Right now the sun is going down in Downtown San Francisco and it is just reminding me that summer is almost over. With that in mind, I'm thinking of these somber images from Filippa K's Fall/ Winter 2009/2010 campaign. Gorgeous backdrop, stunning photography and beautifully crafted clothing. If you haven't, check out the only US store they have right here in San Francisco. They have the best minimalist furniture and high, HIGH ceilings you will ever see.

Metal Machine Music

The much anticipated Acne S/S 2010 Lookbook

All of the men's looks are really easy on the eyes, but the women's outfits, like those wacky plastic pants of fall, is a completely different take. Fringe, armor jeans and water color palettes. Somehow, I sorta like it. It doesn't look juvenile or tacky. I think there could be some great ways for girls to mix some of these pieces into their closets.

I guess I don't have any Danish music in my collection, so instead I was listening to those silly Germans, Die Doraus und Die Marinas. Close enough?
